What a great product. I originally bought this so that it would connect to my ring door bell which it does great. I have also found myself using it for all kinds of searches and other things as well. First on the doorbell when someone rings the doorbell it automatically opens the ring app so it is very easy to use.prosGreat with a ring doorbellApps can be added to it to get even more functionality with it.ConsThe alexa assistant still needs some work and its search functions are not as good as google's but fingers crossed it seems to be getting better over time. The speakers are not all that powerful. You can certainly listen to music on it but there is not a bunch of bass which is fine for some music but not for other music. If you are looking for a smart speaker the echo is probably a better fit but the screen is very nice. All in all I love it and have recommended it to family and friends.
This is the best alarm clock I've ever had. There are a lot of reviews for this device, so I'll just list a few things that I'm really impressed by:- The clock face is customizable and very easy to read from anywhere in the room. The screen has no distortion or discoloration from any angle, so it is easy to see from everywhere.- The screen adapts to the surrounding light. At night, when the room is completely dark, the screen decreases to almost black with just red numbers for the clock. Perfect for checking the time in the middle of the night, and more comfortable than my older LED numbered clocks.- The alarm clock has a slow volume increase, so if I can wake up to the softer tones, then I can turn it off before my wife wakes up. If I'm sleeping really deeply, then it will increase until I finally wake up.- You can set a recurring alarm to every day or every weekday, and it's easy to skip a day on the schedule by just saying "Alexa, skip tomorrow's alarm." There is a small notification in the top-right corner that shows the next upcoming alarm.- The music alarm can be sourced from Spotify, Music, or Pandora (probably other sources as well), so I can wake up to a particular song or to a station if I want to wake up to a different song of the same genre.- The touch-screen is very responsive, so when the alarm goes off in the morning, you can speak audibly to turn it off, or you can reach over to swipe "Dismiss" or swipe down to snooze.- Some of the skills that are designed for Echo Show are great. I recommend playing Jeopardy or looking up recipes.- My wife is very grateful for the physical camera shutter as we keep it in our bedroom. Some things that I don't love:- Every once in a while, it will forget the recurring alarm, so you have to reset it. It's a bit of a hassle to explain to Alexa when you want the alarm to go off on what schedule to what music station. Small complaint for how great everything has been.- The screen is small, so I don't recommend trying to watch shows or movies on it. It would be similar to setting your phone on the counter and watching a movie on it.- Others have mentioned the scrolling screen. This is not a big deal to me, but you can limit what scrolls through, so it's pretty much just the weather and a few suggestions for what to try. This has been a deal-breaker for some, but I'm not certain why. This doesn't happen at night (at least as far as I've noticed) when the screen is black with red numbers. I suspect that the Echo does it to avoid burned images in the screen; if that's the case, then I'm grateful for it.Bottom line: I highly recommend it as a very smart and very useful alarm clock and Echo device. It has its limitations, but frankly, for the price, the limitations are minuscule compared with the benefits of it. We did have it in our kitchen previously (I thought it would be nice to be able to look up recipes hands-free), but we didn't find it to be that useful there, so at least for our situation, it has been an excellent bed-side alarm clock/Echo.
I bought this primarily to use as an alarm clock and it's rather obvious that is what had in mind with this smart device. It was incredibly easy to connect to my wifi, setup, and personalize with my own photos. You have options on selecting the clock face. Whole process took about 40 minutes. Be prepared to input your wifi password, and answer a few questions to complete setup. The speakers are rich....as good as the Echo (2nd gen) in my living room. It does everything a normal Echo product does (tells me jokes, answers questions, controls my connected smart devices, etc.). I used to have to shout at Alexa to turn off lights in the house from bed, but no more. I can speak softly to this little gem and I'm fast asleep. I absolutely LOVE that this has a "night mode" that softens the clock face at night so the light doesn't keep you up. It also is has a "smart light" that brightens about 15 minutes before an alarm goes off. Apparently, this only works during the morning hours. I seriously have zero complaints about this device. I bought the stand primarily to keep the fabric off the tabletop since I'm not the best at remembering to dust and I didn't want the fabric getting dust bunnies. The stand connects with a magnet and is quite secure. I think it gives it a sort of mid-century Jetson's look that I like. The biggest plus of this product is it has substantially reduced those "Damnit, I have to get up again to turn off the lights/turn down the thermostat. If I could just get a programmable cat feeding device that connects to Alexa, my life would be magical. Highly recommend if you need a clock and are tired of shouting at Alexa from another room.
Amazing product love it
I love this device! I read a lot of the negative reviews first - ie: it’s too small, it’s hard to set up, the speaker is too small, etc. OMG people, it’s a device less than 90.00, and I’m sure most didn’t pay that. I just got it for 1/2 off. I immediately plugged it in, and set up was less than 3 min and that included turning off most of the notifications that people constantly gripe about. Yes, you can turn them off! I just bought another to give as a gift.I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment, and I have an echo dot (3rd gen) in the living room, an echo flex with nightlight in the bathroom, and now the echo show 5 in my bedroom. Almost everything i have is connected to Alexa. I love it! And, btw, I’m over 60, so age is definitely not a factor :).
